I live around the corner from this place and occasionally I stop in for a coffee and maybe a dessert. I have given it several chances and each time they find a new way to be obnoxious. Smarmy waiters who single-handedly uphold the broad stereotype of the rude Parisian server. But what I find most egregious is their utterly incomprehensible pricing for coffee. Each time I have ordered the same thing: un café allongé avec un petit peu du lait apart. And each time I have been charged a different amount - it started at about 2.20 euros but today it hit 5 euros. Come on. I asked why it was a different amount each time and received a shrug and a curt, "Je ne sais pas." (This also happens to be the same guy I've overheard making truly nasty remarks about customers, thinking (I guess) that he can't be heard.) What they do is this: they charge you for a café creme. But in fact, if you'd just ordered the café allongé it would have cost you around 2 euros. Add a thimble full of milk? That's another 3. There are a hell of a lot of restaurants in this city. Don't give them the satisfaction of being jackwads.
