Value for money

We were so looking forward to trying this restaurant and left very disappointed.

First, the food is decent. Not great but decent and fresh.

Service is awful and we were severely overcharged.

The waiter was a charmer. He pressed us to order one appetizer platter without giving us the price (it was not on the menu). We agreed once he reluctantly told us the price. He was pushy but with a friendly demeanor.

We then ordered one mixed grill platter by pointing to it on the menu.

One mixed grill platter was then served.

It was never clear if the pita bread and bulgar and rice were included in the platter or not. It was not written on the menu.

The water carafe was tiny and after filling our three small glasses left only a little. We spent a lot of the meal thirsty or trying to make eye contact to ask for more water. We ordered a carafe of wine (bordeaux, not very good) so we were paying for a beverage. No reason to keep us thirsty.

The bill came and to our surprise we were charged for three (THREE) mixed grills. They cost EUR 17 each and we had only consumed about a third of the mixed grill platter.

When protesting that we had only ordered one mixed grill -- by pointing to it on the menu -- the waiter -- who spoke excellent English -- said, "one is not enough food for the three of you." Yes, it was.

We were tired and reluctantly paid the bill (including the EUR 51 for mixed grill when we only wanted and ordered one order). We were given a bag with the leftovers inside.

The next day we went back and spoke with the owner and his wife who remembered us. They said that it was too late for a correction. When told the waiter didn't want to make an adjustment, the previous evening, we were told it's our fault and to remember the mistake for next time we eat there. We were told we should have known that there were three orders worth of mixed grill on the one platter. How, I asked? No answer.

We were treated quite rudely although we remained polite but firm. We had decided in advance that, if unsuccessful at getting a correction, the very unpleasant interaction and substantial overcharge was not going to impact our enjoyment of and many wonderful experiences in Paris!

There is no chance we will ever return and I would advise others to steer clear of Al Mina. If you do go, make absolutely certain that you have prior agreement of exactly what you are ordering and the associated cost.

We have been eating at this restaurant since 2007 and would highly recommend it. The kebabs are the best we have ever had and the staff are so friendly and helpful. We will definitely go back.
