We should have known walking in that it was going to be a mistake - only 2 or 3 tables with diners seated but almost all the rest covered with an assortment of dirty dishes. Once seated, it took the surly waiter (owner?) forever to bring us menus, and forever again to take our orders. The food was adequate, standard Greek fare but nothing to rave about. We tried to flag down our waiter to get menus to order dessert but to no avail. Finally one of us got up and searched them out for ourselves. Getting him to stop and take our order was hopeless as he avoided eye contact every time he passed - by this time our group was laughing hysterically because we felt like we must be on hidden camera! Finally I jumped up and literally stood in his way to ask him if might please order our dessert now. In the middle of us ordering, he scooped up several dirty dishes and swooped them off to the kitchen while we watched in amazement (guess he must have figured out by that time there would be little in the way of a tip) then calmly resumed noting down our requests as if this was all perfectly normal. Do yourself a favor and walk past the Taverne Grecque, not inside!

Tried this restaurant among the few others in the street because there was no aggressive man at the door trying to get me in. Did not regret it. Excellent food, good service. Enjoy.
